::MLEA - The Hungry Giant::
Monday, April 2, 2012

Last week we had our first MLEA (Modified Language Experience Approach) whereby we went through a series of experiential learning of making sandwiches for the hungry giant. After going through the hands-on or experiences, we sat down together to write as a class. This was followed by another round of shared experience of making group sandwiches by every different groups and eventually the pupils sat down to write as a group. These scaffolding stages are necessary in teaching writing explicitly to pupils as they act as a support to help pupils to write individually in the end.

I believe our 'take-away' for these activities is not only about knowing how to make sandwiches for the giant but also learning to cooperate and taking turns while performing the tasks given.
