Welcome!
Dear Parents,

I would like to wish all of you a very ‘Happy New Year’ and welcome to the very first issue of Pr 1A Class Blog Bulletin. I am Ms Salina, Form Teacher of Primary 1A. I have started teaching lower primary since the last 7 years. Before I joined teaching, I have been to many other schools to conduct creative writing workshops and study camps. I will be teaching your child English, Mathematics, Music, Art, Social Studies and FTGP or Social Emotional Learning (SEL). I will also try my best to guide him/her in developing life skills and good character values. I believe every pupil is special in his/her own way and he or she can be nurtured holistically. Thus I am looking forward to working with you.

Just for your information, for the first week of school, Pr 1A will be busy with:
1) Setting up our classroom interactive centres
2) Coming up with class rules and routines
3) Playing ice-breaking games and activities that will help us know one another better.

To reinforce the expectations I have regarding the class, I have placed some important and useful information that I would like to share with you.

1. Homework
Homework may not be given out on a daily basis. When there is homework, your child will be asked to write it down in his or her pupil handbook. Ensure that your child is equipped with a homework file to keep in all worksheets and handouts given. Please ensure that your child completes and hands in the homework to the respective teachers the following day or the day as stated by the teacher. Similarly, for handouts which require input from parents, please ensure that the handouts are filled in and sent back to the school on the stated day and date, through your child.

2. Class timetable
A copy of the class timetable has been given to your child today, 3 Jan 2012 (Tuesday). Do take note that there might be some changes to the timetable as the school is trying out this timetable for a week to see its fluidity. I will send out another copy of the timetable if there are any changes. Please ensure your child is dressed in PE attire for PE, Fitness Friday and EPAL days. (On every Monday, Wednesday and Friday)

3. Parent-Teacher Communication
I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls and emails whenever necessary. Likewise, if you have any concerns about your child, you may write to me via the Student Handbook, call the school office (Tel: 64824650) or email me at salina_sulaiman@moe.edu.sg. The school will send out letters to parents through the students to disseminate important information.

On this blog, I will include activities, pupils’ work, photos and teaching strategies used and displayed in my classroom. You will be informed of class activities and important dates through the blog too. This blog will also serve as a means of communication between us.

4. Collection of books
In order to help your child carry a lighter school bag, I will be collecting some books and files this week and keeping them in class. To minimize the heavy load, he or she can bring these books according to the dates stated below.

Wednesday, 4th Jan 2012
P1 Listening Comprehension, Book 1
P1 Sounds Book 1
My Grammar Handbook
Maths Workbook Book 1A Part 1

Perfect Match Health Education Primary 1 – Pupil’s Book

Thursday, 5th Jan 2012

1 Medium Single Lined Exercise books (for Spelling)
1 Jotter Book (lined) for Stellar MLEA
2 Red English files (for Creative Writing and EL Learning Sheets)
1 Blue Math file
EDPS Report Book

Please ensure that your child’s name, class and subjects are clearly written on the cover page.

Please also ensure that your child brings his or her student handbook, a storybook and the Maths Textbook 1A to school every day. Silent reading is done before school starts and pupils are encouraged to read English storybook every Monday to Wednesday and MT storybook on every Thursday and Friday.

5. Dismissal, Student Handbook and Pupil’s Information Form
Please take note of the school hours as listed on page 6 of the handbook.
Do help me to fill up your child’s particulars in the Student Handbook as well as the Pupil’s Information form that have been given to your child today. I will be collecting the Pupil’s Information form by end of the week.

6. School Temperature Taking Exercise
The school will be conducting a temperature taking exercise this Friday, 6th Jan 2012. For Primary 1 pupils, each of them will be given a thermometer on the day itself. Do help me to write your child’s name and class on the thermometer when they bring it home.

7. Absence from school
Whenever your child is absent, a medical certificate (MC) from the doctor or a parental note to explain the absence is required. Please call the office to inform me about your child’s absence. Please also indicate clearly if he or she is to be excused from PE lessons as advised by the doctor.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. I look forward to working together with you in ensuring your child’s well-being.
