::CNY Celebration in school and what we've learnt so far::

Last Friday, we celebrated CNY in school. Pupils get to wear their pretty home clothes. My pupils looked forward to the concert and especially anxious about the lion dance performance. Check out our CNY pictures.

As for last week, 1A had already started reading on a new big book, 'Mrs Wishy Washy'. It is one of Ms Salina's favourite big book to read and there will always be interesting extension acitivities to this book. I've placed a big tub on the EL Wall and pupils could draw and colour things they would like Mrs Wishy Washy to scrub. They just need to paste their pictures on the tub and the bubbles.

As for Math, we've completed Number Bonds and moving on to Addition within 10. Number Bonds can be further revised at home as some pupils really need to grasp this concept very well as to help them with bigger numbers in future. Pupils should be able to tell me pairs of numbers that make up 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Parents can help by going through this verbally at home.

::Mrs Wishy Washy Extension Activity::

Dear Parents,

We read a new big book today called, 'Mrs Wishy Washy'. It was indeed a fun book to read and I decided to have an extension activity based on the main character. My pupils may need your help in the cutting, pasting as well as assembling Mrs Wishy Washy together. No rush though as pupils can still hand in the completed work by next week when school reopens.

Mrs Wishy Washy has no nice clothes to wear since hers got stained after she scrubbed the animals clean. 1A pupils are to make new set of clothes for Mrs Wishy Washy to wear. In order to do that, let's follow these easy steps below:

Step 1: Colour Mrs Wishy Washy and her full set of attire (Remember,be creative!)
Step 2: Cut out all the parts
Step 3: Assemble Mrs Wishy Washy first before you decide to paste the parts together with glue.

Ms Salina's made her very own Mrs Wishy Washy too and it looked like this.

Do put in some effort on the colouring, darlings!
Looking forward to see your Mrs Wishy Washy.
You can download the pdf file and reprint the template here too!

::CNY Dragon Mobile (Art HW)::

Dear Parents,

My pupils did the CNY Dragon Mobile in school for Art lesson today. Most of them couldn't finish it in school and would need your help in the cutting and assembling the dragon mobile together. I will need them to complete their artwork before next Tue 17 Jan 2012. Hope you can assist your child and let him or her practice cutting using scissors. Below are the pictures of the dragon mobile end product and the steps to making it.

::Things we did in Week 1 of school::

I believe it will be quite overwhelming if you were to ask your child what he or she had done this entire of week 1 in school. Perhaps some would be able to name a few class activities we had enjoyed in 1A. For those who couldn't, do not worry, must be too much for them to remember. Just to update the parents, we started off with class routines, class rules and played some class games in week 1. We are also seated in groups of 6, acccording to colours. Working in groups will allow us to understand 'Cooperation' and learn to take turns better.

We read our first big book, 'The Farm Concert' and I think we had read this book thrice in just 2 days. (We are definitely reading this book again so that everyone is familiarised with the words in the book besides just the enjoyment in reading.) My pupils remembered clearly how to sing the Farm Concert song too.

For Math, we just started on how to read, write and spell Numbers 1 to 10. We drew caricatures of ourselves for the Art Folders as well as for part of our class decor. The caricatures gave an identity to our class 1A too.

For Music, we have learnt to sing National Anthem, our school song and the new term 1 recess song, 'Smile' by Glee.

Also not forgetting, I have selected the Term 1 class monitors. Congratulations to Preston and Zi Xian. Let's work together with both our monitors in maintaing class discipline and well-being. The rest of us will still have a role to play in class besides just the daily group leader roles and you will know what leadership role you will be taking in week 2.

Anyway, our P1 pupils had their first round of the Recess Buddy Programme. I hope they will continue to learn alot from their P3 Buddies.

Last Saturday, some parents and pupils came to help Ms Salina and Mdm Chen (MT Teacher) with the classroom decor. Thank you so much to Preston and Mummy, Jie Xin and Mummy, Levi and Daddy, Candice and Granny and lastly to Terence of 1B and Daddy. You are all such lovely helpers!
