::Student's EZ-link card, letter to Parent and Math Performance Task 2::
Monday, March 26, 2012
Dear Parents,
Most of my pupils have received their student's EZ-Link card today. However due to administrative matters, some pupils will receive their card slightly later. To those who have their cards today, parents are to check that the details stated on the card e.g. Name, BC Number, Gender, Photo and Date of Birth, are correct. Any error, do let me know. Along with the card, is a letter for Parents to take note of this the card.
I also returned the Math Performance Task 2 to pupils for parents to sign. Do check with your child regarding this assessment.
Thank you for your kind cooperation.
Regards,
Ms Salina

::Countable and Uncountable Nouns::
Thursday, March 22, 2012
We learnt countable and uncountable nouns today in class and I challenge my pupils to name a few more nouns (naming words) and put them into the correct groupings of nouns. Parents can help to encourage your child to try this activity worksheet at home and at the same time reinforce the concept of 'Countable' and 'Uncountable' nouns.

I am also sharing my Power Point slides here on my class blog for my pupils to revisit this grammar lesson at their own time.

::What kind of ingredients can we put into our giant sandwich for the hungry giant?::
Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Share your ideas...I seriously don't mind if you have weird and funny ideas in making the sandwich. Furthermore, this giant sandwich will be for that nasty, hungry giant that we read about. Ms Salina will be happy to read the list and hopefully laugh while reading about it.

::Welcoming the New Term::
Dear Parents and Pupils,
I would like to welcome everyone back to a new school term. I do hope everyone had a good break. My pupils started off the week learning a new Math topic (Ordinal Numbers) as well as reading a new big book for English.
I told them that we will be dealing with bigger numbers and reading about big or huge things and creatures...hmm for example like 'Giants'. There will be books on animals to look out for too and a learning journey trip to ______ (Try to make a guess!) Ms Salina definitely loves Term 2 books besides the fact that they are an interesting read. I can think of so many fun educational activities to do with you.
As for these 2 weeks, we are reading this big book called, 'The Hungry Giant'. We will also be starting on class writing, group writing as well as individual writing based on this book. Writing will be a fun skill to learn as there will be experiential learning activity taking place before one starts to write confidently.
Apart from Math and English, we started off the week with some changes too. I practise changing the class monitor and monitress every term. I believe it is just my way to give opportunities for pupils to take on important leadership roles. There should also be equal leadership opportunities for the rest of my 28 pupils and as such everyone has a role to play in my class. They make my classroom management more efficient and put structure in place.
My Term 1 Monitors - Preston and Zi Xian had done such wonderful job in keeping 'law and order' in my class. Not only that, my pupils respect them because they were never nasty towards their classmates and that my pupils understood if their names were written on the board for misbehaving. Being a good monitor is never an easy job because one has to be firm and fair. Thank you Preston and Zi Xian for doing such a good job and I hope your leadership capabilities do not just end there. A good leader will always be remembered and looked up upon. Let's also welcome my 2 new monitors - Alvin and Jie Xin. I am so glad my pupils cheered for them when I announced their names last Monday. So Alvin and Jie Xin, do give your best in performing these class monitors' roles and responsibilities.

From left: Preston, Zi Xian, Alvin and Jie Xin
In future entries to come, I will be featuring some of the other subject monitors in my class who are also equally important. Yes, without them, Ms Salina will have to do alot of things alone! Thus, do stay tune for more.

::Math WB 1A Part 1, Feb Best Group and Star Pupil and other great updates::
Sunday, March 4, 2012
Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for attending last Saturday's Meet The Parents Briefing on Holistic Assessment. Feedback and concerns will be further shared and discussed with my level teachers.
1) Request to collect back Math WB 1A Part 1:
I am requesting to collect back my pupils' math wb 1A part 1 as there will be Math book and file checking in my level. Apologise that this has to come at a very last minute and that I've returned to your child for safe keeping and revision at home just 2 weeks ago. Hope parents can assist me to pack their wb for easy collection on my part by this coming Tuesday, 6 March 2012. Appreciate your assistance.
2) Feb Best Group:
Feb Best Group goes to the Blue Group this time. They have shown great teamwork and they often helped one another without complaining. Well done, Blue Group, you deserved the award!
3) Feb Star Pupil:
Alvin Aung is our Feb Star Pupil. I am truly proud of Alvin and I think he truly deserves the award for his consistent effort he put in all his work. His work will always be tip top, very neat and as his teacher, I enjoy marking his work. Mdm Chen, his MT teacher, also always praises Alvin for his diligence and perseverance. He also practices self-discipline and he knows how to behave well in class. I really hope everyone in class will learn from Alvin. Keep up the good work, Alvin!
4) Our Art Lesson:
After so many weeks, we finaly get to resume with our Art lessons. When I say, Art lesson, I meant real drawing and using crayons and other colouring medium. For the past few weeks, our Art lessons were replaced by Digital Art and IT lessons. Check out our pictures.

5) Showcase of pupils' good work:
I am showcasing good work done by some of my pupils on my class blog too. These pupils deserve the recognition for their hard work and also exemplary role models to others.
This Total Defence Reflection Activity Worksheet is done by Xavier. His work was selected and will be showcased on NE School Corner. Xavier enjoys colouring and he will always go the extra mile to colour nicely. Colouring takes some skills and to colour nicely definitely needs one to be patient. I am very sure Xavier took his time and he takes pride in his work.

My class continued with Shapes and Patterns this week and 3 of my pupils, Jie Xin, Levi and Yu Le applied what they have learnt about this Math Unit into good use. They were able to see shapes in things at their home and created a poster or a list. They shared their findings to their peers. I hope to see more coming on board.
See all of you again tomorrow!
